E2C SCARA Robots

EPSON pioneered the small, ultra precision SCARA robot market back in 1998 and we've continued to focus on this market ever since. The E2C251S has an 8 micron repeatability (2 microns better than its predecessor) and we also improved cycle times by 10% (that's a .39 second cycle for the E2C251S). The E2C Robots are available in 2 basic sizes with 250mm and 350mm reaches. They are also available in cleanroom/ESD compliant and/or multi-mount configurations thus providing a large variety of solutions to meet your high precision SCARA robot application requirements. The E2C Robots are ideal for applications such as fiber optics component assembly, hard disk assembly, semiconductor die handling and other automation jobs where parts are small and space is at a premium. The E2C251 and E2C351 Robots continue the role of their predecessors in defining a whole new class of SCARA robots and providing a small footprint solution for many applications that don't require larger robots. This translates to a cost/space savings while maintaining the high performance that EPSON Robots are famous for.

E2C251 Specifications

The E2C251 Robot is a four axis unit with high torque AC servo motors for reduced maintenance and harmonic drives for increased speed and reliability. E2C251 Robots come in two models: E2C251S (standard configuration) and E2C251C (cleanroom configuration). E2C251 Robots have a horizontal reach of 250mm (hence the name E2C251) and a Z Axis vertical stroke of 120mm. The E2C251 Robot also has a standard (1" x 12" x 1" and back) cycle time of 0.39 seconds and a repeatability of 0.008mm (0.000315 in.)! With numbers like these, the E2C251 robots are some of the fastest most repeatable SCARA robots available with a better price/performance/space ratio than any competitive unit.

E2C351 Specifications

Like the E2C251 Robots, the EC351 Robots are four axis units with high torque AC servo motors for reduced maintenance and harmonic drives for increased speed and reliability. E2C351 Robots come in four models: E2C351S (standard configuration), E2C351SM (standard multi-mount configuration), E2C351C (class 10 cleanroom configuration), and the E2C351CM (class 10 cleanroom multi-mount configuration). The E2C351 robots have a horizontal reach of 350mm and a Z Axis vertical stroke of 120mm. E2C351 robots have a standard (1" x 12" x 1" and back) cycle time of 0.417 seconds and a repeatability of 0.010mm (0.0004 in.)! With numbers like these, the E2C351 robots are also one of the fastest most repeatable SCARA robots available with a better price/performance/space ratio than any competitive units.

Powerful Controls

EPSON is the leader in PC based controls with 2 basic offerings: the RC420 compact PC based controller, and the RC520 expandable PC based controller. Both the RC420 and RC520 controllers are based on our easy to use EPSON RC+ Robot Control Software. The fundamental difference between the 2 controllers is size (the RC420 is a single box controller just a little larger than an industrial PC and the RC520 is a 2 box solution) and expandability (the RC420 has 4/3 available ISA/PCI slots but the RC520 has 7 ISA and 4 PCI slots available for expansion). As a leader in PC based controls, our products not only give access to the thousands of 3rd party products available for the PC but we have focused on ease of use to help reduce learning and development time. As a result, many of our customers have experienced significant reductions in development time due to the ease with which our robots can be programmed. With integrated options such as Vision Guide for robot guidance and inspection applications, VB Guide Active X controls, Ethernet I/O, Force Sensing and others, EPSON RC+ is not only easy to use but also flexible in the different applications it helps to solve.

Z-Axis Stroke and Features

The Z-Axis for the E2C Robots comes standard with 120mm of stroke (100mm for the class 10 cleanroom models). This axis includes a brake that engages to hold tooling and payloads in place when servo motor power is removed. A brake release button is easily accessible on top of the axis for quick release and the quill is hollow which allows easy channeling of electrical and pneumatic lines.

Fast Tool Rotation

Cycle time is the name of the game and just moving quickly in the XY plane isn't enough to meet the tough cycle time requirements of today's applications. This is why U Axis (or the tool rotational axis) speed is so important for most applications. The E2C Robots U Axis travels a full + 360 degrees and with a top speed of 2600 deg/second (a 10% improvement from the previous generation EC Series Robots) is nearly twice as fast vs. most competitive models which translates to more parts processed per hour.

Absolute Encoders

All E2C Series robots come standard with Absolute Encoders. This means that they don't have to be sent to a home position when first powering the controller up. This can save valuable time during startup each day. Just power the RC420 or RC520 controller on, and the E2C Series Robots are ready to begin their work for the day.

Class 10 Clean Room Capable

The E2C251C, E2C351C, and E2C351CM Robots are Class 10 Clean Room versions of the standard EC251S, E2C351S and E2C351SM Robots. The only specification difference is that the Z-Axis stroke is 100mm on the E2C Clean Robots vs. 120mm on the standard E2C Series Robots. With the introduction of the E2 Robots all class 10 cleanroom robots now also come standard as ESD compliant which make them ideal for sensitive applications where static electricity can cause defective parts such as the hard disk industry. The E2C251C and E2C351C, and E2C351SM Robots are also available at remarkably affordable prices.

Multi-Mount Configurations

A new multiple mounting configuration is available with the EPSON E2 Robots. E2 Multi-Mount Robots can be mounted to a wall, ceiling, on the top of a shelf or the bottom of a shelf (or ceiling) and they are available in both standard multi-mount (SM) and class 10 cleanroom/ESD multi-mount (CM) configurations. For the E2C Robots only the E2C351 Robots are available as multi-mount models.        E2 Multi-Mount Model
