How To: How to install the SIIG Model 1843 2 Port RS-232 PCI Board

Purpose
This document contains instructions for installing the SIIG Model 1843 RS-232 PCI Board in an EPSON RC+ PC.

Setup Instructions
The SIIG 1843 PCI card will add two more RS-232 ports and utilizes PCI shared interrupts.   Two DB9 connectors are provided on the board's mounting plate.

Note:  Currently, Comm3 and Comm4 are reserved by EPSON RC+.  Additional ports must be installed starting with Comm5, as instructed below.

To install:

  1. Shut down the system and install the SIIG board in any available PCI slot.
  1. Start Windows NT.
  1. Install the drivers from the disk provided by SIIG by running setup.exe from the NT directory on SIIG setup disk.  The SIIG manual includes a section for NT installation.
  1. Restart Windows NT as instructed.
  1. From the Control Panel, open the CyberSerial PCI icon and change Comm3 to Comm5 and Comm4 to Comm6 (or use Comm7, Comm8, etc. up to Comm16.
  1. Restart Windows NT.
  1. Check the CyberSerial settings.  You may have to change the settings again, then restart.
  1. Proceed to the RS-232 Software Configuration in the RS-232 Communcations chapter of the EPSON RC+ User's Guide and enable ports you installed.

Additional boards can be installed and configured for Comm7, Comm8, etc. up to Comm16.
