Steps to take if after installing Epson RC+ 7.x, you get an error that the USB connection is reserved for RC620 SPEL controller

This error generally means that Epson RC+ 6.x was also installed on the same computer and during install the checkbox “Installed On Controller” was checked.  If this is not an RC620 controller, that checkbox should not have been checked but we have had some customers make that mistake.

If you get the error message box shown below after installing Epson RC+ 7.x, there are 2 steps you can take.

If you don’t need Epson RC+ 6.x on this system anymore

Uninstall Epson RC+ 6.x and Epson RC+ 7.x.  Reinstall Epson RC+ 7.x.  Now it should work.

If you still need Epson RC+ 6.x on this system

Uninstall Epson RC+ 6.x and Epson RC+ 7.x.  Reinstall Epson RC+ 6.x but make sure you don’t check the box that says “Installed On Controller” during the setup.  This checkbox is meant to tell the system that it is an actual RC620 when the box is checked so it reserves the USB for the system – if you are installing on a “user” PC, it is NOT an RC620 and this box should be unchecked.  Reinstall Epson RC+ 7.x.  Now it should work.
